Fanaa - Demultiplexed

Aamir Khan has run into some controversy with each of his last 3 films. Historians in Mangal Pandey, Maneka & Co in RDB, BJP and Multiplex owners in the latest Fanaa.

The issue between Yash Raj films and the Multiplex owners association is nothing but arm-twisting by either side. But the opposition by the Gujarat BJP to the release of the movie in protest against Aamir's support to Medha Patkar's fast and Narmada Bachao Andolan is unforgivable. Infact, Rang de Basanti also had a torrid time in Gujarat. If it is PMK in South, it is BJP & Co in North.

"I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Nothing explains Freedom of Speech better.

After all, any publicity is good publicity.

Good democracy can give you right on what you can say. No one has robbed that right from Amir Khan as he is on each and every channel saying what ever he wants to say it but no democracy can save you from the consequences of what you utter. If your utterance are perceived as harmful by others they also have right in democracy to react by boycot. Here state is not involved at all and it is right of one citizen v/s other. If such boycot is costing Fanaa few crores they should not forget that NBA protest has cost Gujarat few hundered crores in terms of escalated cost and additional hardship in draght prone area. For people like Amir Khan who has some followings their utterance shall be careful well thought out and shall be backed with true action and he can not just refuge in claiming good intentions.

@anon:
You right in saying that people have the right to protest, but there should not be a state-sponsored coercion. I have seen on TV, theatre owners telling that it is unsafe to release Fanaa in their halls. If people of Gujarat want to show their dissent to Amir Khan, let the movie be released in theatres and let the people to decide. BJP or any other party has no right to force halls not to show a particular movie.
