The novel...the movie

This is the second time I have watched a movie after having read the novel based on which it is made. The first time was with 'Bourne Identity', now with 'The Godfather'. The latter was tremendous to say the least. The movie was a true motion capture of the novel. Even some (the important) dialogues were the same. May be because of the sequence of reading the novel and seeing the movie, I liked the movie better than the novel. One thing which stood out in the movie was the background music and the actors. While reading the novel, I had a visualization of the actors, but almost every one except Apollonia far bettered my imagination. I can't stop wondering about Godfathers 2 and 3..

One reason I think you would have loved the movie better was because the novel devotes many sections to the fringe characters. There is almost no mention of Valente or Dr. Segal in the movie, but the novel gives a great deal of information about them. Hence the novel is not as taut as the movie is.

I haven't seen Part 3, but Part 2 - you'll absolutely love. Even those who disagree about the cult status of Part 1, would vouch that Part 2 is the greatest sequel ever made. Robert De Niro, as the younger Vito Corleone, gives Marlon Brando a run for his money.

And, what's wrong with Appolonia? I thought she was just as described in the novel - more Greek than Italian.

Well, talking about Bourne Identity i saw the movie on the same day i finished reading it. But the movie let me down though i felt it was one of the better books i have read.

Another one i want to see is "Man On Fire" the one that is released as Ek Ajnabee in Hindi now, because after reading the novel i felt this could be made as a movie and was later made too. Must also see Godfather.
